Photodynamic Therapy
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment where photosensitising agents are used in combination with light to destroy skin cancer cells. PDT is becoming more widely recognized as a valuable treatment option for localised skin cancers cancers as well as precancerous cells.
Topical (Cream) Therapy
Topical treatments may be prescribed to patients with specific forms of skin lesions. A gel, cream or solution is rubbed onto the affected area to stimulating the immune system response to cancerous cells. This can be used as a stand-alone treatment or combined with other forms of therapy, depending on the type and severity of the lesion.
Cryotherapy
Freezing a lesion is referred to as cryotherapy, a cold treatment used to treat a variety of skin lesions. Liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the lesion, causing a scab to form. After about a month, this will resolve and fall-off. It is possible that a small white scar will remain. Cryotherapy can be used for BCCs and SCCs in their early stages as well as pre-cancerous lesions.
