Born in Sydney and raised in Greece, Dr Stathis Ambazidis graduated from Medical School in 1987. Between 1988 and 2001 he trained in General Surgery and subsequently in Cardiothoracic Surgery in Newcastle, Sydney, Brisbane and UK.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Cardiothoracic Surgery) since 2001 and also credentialed as Cardiothoracic Surgeon in a number of European countries.
He has been a clinical tutor in Surgery in the Medical Schools of Newcastle, Queensland and Nicosia (Cyprus).
Dr Ambazidis has worked as consultant cardiothoracic surgeon in Greece, Cyprus and Australia the last 20 years and he is currently the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at John Hunter Hospital as well as the Clinical Superintendent for the Division of Surgery in the same hospital.
In recent years he has completed a Professional Certificate in Dermoscopy and an Advanced Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine. He joined the practice in early 2021 and aims to gradually increase his involvement in clinical work as well as research related to skin cancer.
